Little Murray & the Mantics

Discovered while singing a Jackson Five tune at an Indianapolis talent show, Little Murray was paired with the Mantics by songwriter/producer Romeo Glenn. They cut their only record at New Palestine, Indiana’s 700 West Studio. Released by the studio’s in- house custom label, “Don’t Leave Me Mama” is a bizarre riff on a common childhood fear, replete with sobbing and unintelligible lyrics. Somehow, this oddball 45 drew major label attention, which promptly vanished when Murray’s parents uprooted the family and moved to Detroit.
