Johnny K Killens & The Dynamites

1967 proved to be Clarke Pearsall Productions’ best year, and due to an intense rivalry developing between the two owners, the last. You can hear it in Johnny K. Killens & the Dynamites “I Don’t Need Help,” a song about two old friends fighting over one woman. It was a bit of foreshadowing that unfortunately found Killens, a Tampa native that Frank Williams had discovered, stuck in the middle of. While struggling through a few more sessions, that tension worked, strangely, as a catalyst for great songwriting.
