Associated Press

Coming up in the hallowed hallways of Columbus East High School, Associated Press began as the generically-named Soul Searchers, with Melvin stewart on bass, David Gross on drums, LeMorris Payne on Trumpet, and Craig Moreland on guitar. A few 1973 sessions at Capsoul Studios, under the watchful eye of Dean Francis, never materialized on 45, but Francis would later remix "When He's Gone" at Owl Recording, utilizing the original rhythm tracks and adding vocal harmonies. He added the results to the newly recorded side "Jungle Walk" and issues both on Incentive under the name Associated Press in 1976, despite the fact that Associated Press had since changed its name to blind justice.
